Your septic tank includes a pump chamber. This pump chamber controls the flow of waste into your septic tank at a rate that your tank can process. There are a few things you need to do in order to take care of the pump chamber on your septic tank.

#1 Get The Pump Chamber Inspected Yearly

When you have a septic tank on your property, it is a good idea to invest in a yearly inspection of your septic tank and pump chamber. Each year, there could be small changes to your septic tank and pump chamber. For example, a bolt could come loose, or a seal could get worn out. Yearly inspections are the best way to take care of small changes to your septic system right away and to keep an eye on your septic tank so any gradual changes are easily spotted.

A septic tank is an expensive item to replace, and getting it inspected on a yearly basis will help ensure that your septic tank lasts. With a yearly inspection, your septic tank is not just inspected for wear and tear; issues that are identified can also be fixed on the same visit.

#2 Clean and Replace the Filter

Your pump change has a filter inside of it that helps it function properly. This filter is not designed to last forever. You should remove and replace the filter at least once a year. It is a good idea to replace the filter during the yearly inspection.

You can also ask your septic tank inspector to teach you how to take out the filter and clean it. Most pump chamber filters can be cleaned at least a few times before they need to be replaced. Cleaning the filter will ensure that your pump filter is operating as best it can.

#3 Reduce Water Use When Power Is Out

If your power ever goes out, try to reduce water waste until the power is turned back on. Any water you use will be sent to the pump chamber; however, without power, your pump chamber is not going to be operational. Avoid flooding your pump chamber when the power is out by limiting the amount of water that you use while the power is out and in the first few hours after the power comes back on.

You should get your pump chamber inspected on a yearly basis. The annual inspection is a great time to fix any issues with the pump chamber and ensure that everything is operating properly. If the power ever goes out, reduce your water use while the power is out so that way you don't overwhelm your pump chamber when the power comes back on.
