The presence of mold in your home can result in property damage and have a negative impact on the health of everyone in your home. Unfortunately, spotting mold in your home is not always quite as easy as spotting mold on an old loaf of bread. In fact, by the time you see clusters of mold on your walls or ceilings, this mold infestation will likely be widespread already. That is why it is so important for you to learn some of the earlier signs of mold growth so that you can be on the lookout for them in your own home. If you spot any of the three warning signs below, stop what you are doing and contact a mold inspector.

#1: Your Wallpaper Or Paint Is Bubbling

If you notice small bubbles forming in your paint or under your wallpaper, this is often a sign that there is moisture inside your walls. This is often the result of a hidden plumbing leak. In addition to the water damage that this type of leak can cause, you can also find yourself dealing with a very serious mold infestation. This is because mold grows best in moist environments. The dark, wet environment created by a leak inside your wall is ideal for the growth and spread of mold. Consequently, you will always want to contact a mold inspector in addition to contacting a plumber in order to deal with this situation.

#2: There Are Small Black Dots On Your Walls Or Ceilings

When many people think of mold, they tend to think of the white and green mold varieties that often grow on food. However, there are many different types of mold that can grow inside your home. Many of these types of mold are actually black in color and will start out as small black dots on your walls, ceilings, floors, or grout. If you notice these small black dots, this is not simply built-up dirt. In order to stop this mold from spreading, it is important to have your home inspected and treated by a professional.

#3: Your Home Frequently Has A Musty Odor

If you frequently notice a musty odor in your home when you come back from being out for the day, this could be a sign that there is mold growing in your home. This is because as previously discussed, mold flourishes in damp conditions. These same damp conditions are often to blame for a frequent musty odor. If you have just begun smelling this unpleasant odor, you will want to make use of a dehumidifier to remove some of the moisture from the air. This can help to discourage the growth of mold. However, if mold has already begun growing or if there is a current source of leaking water in your home, simply using a dehumidifier will not be enough to eliminate the problem.
